Coaching
The first thing that’s important to know about writing a memoir is that everyone has their own unique story to tell, and no one on earth is better qualified to write it than the person who’s lived it.
It is not necessary to have a dramatic life history in order to write a beautiful and compelling memoir. In fact, less spectacular stories are often more relatable. Peoples’ everyday lives are full of hidden and hard-earned gems of interest and wisdom.
Memoir coaching is useful in a wide variety of practical areas, including helping you with planning before you get started, bouncing ideas around as you proceed, offering guidance on tone, scope and structure, and heading problems off before they arise. Also, memoir coaching offers assessment of your work as it develops, editorial input if you desire, and guidance around the complex area of publishing.
It also offers support around the various personal aspects of memoir writing, which is always fraught with questions and the tensions they give rise to. Questions like “Should I really write this?” “Who’ll want to read what I’m writing?” “Should I name people from my past?” “How will my loved ones react to this?”
People who have more sensitive and painful topics to cover in their memoirs, like abuse of various kinds or addictions, will benefit from discussing how to prepare for the impact of such public revelations and how to navigate life in the aftermath.
Because this is a bespoke service, you get to set the parameters. You choose which sorts of support you want, and how much or little of each, and we’ll draw up a plan together for how you want your coaching to be structured.
If you would like to be supported as you write your own memoir, at your own pace and in your own way, get in touch on the email below. I would be very happy to help you.
